Beam

We have a split level house. With this style, comes a crack in the ceiling between the living and dining rooms. When we were looking at the house with our Realtor, she said it's very common. I commented to Mark that he could hide it with a fake beam. Well, 6 years later - he never forgot that. He went to a sawmill and bought a bunch of wood. The top section that you can touch by the stairs is solid and weighed a ton (trust me...I helped his brother hold it up to install). The two bigger sections are hollow. I'm sure those weighed quite a bit too as it took Mark and Ray several weekends to install it. It was a ton of work for them - Mark's quite a perfectionist! Mark had to crawl into our small attic over the kitchen to attach it somehow. Here's some pics. It does look great!! Thanks again, Ray, for all your help - we could NOT have done it without you.

Kitchen purchase

The cabinet guys came out and measured our kitchen today.  With that came the writing of our first check - wowie!

The best plans....

The kitchen project ran a little later than we expected today, AND the stuff I took out for dinner didn't defrost.  So, our 9 pm dinner tonight was banana/pecan pancakes and bacon.  I'll have to think of something else for breakfast tomorrow, I guess.  Maybe I'll just sleep in and let Mark fend for himself.  Yeah, that sounds good!   I was looking forward to my Paula Deen Mashed Baked though.  For those of you who like cheesy potatoes - you have to try this - it's way better!!!  I can't wait for dinner tomorrow!

Now we are settling down to watch Road House

Okay, the snow storm wasn't as bad as they said, BUT..........

I left work around 3:30.  I am home safe and sound, and the driveway didn't have too much snow in it - about 4 or 5 inches.  I decided to wait for Mark to get home and plow.  I'm home for about 5 minutes and my cell rings.  It's Mark.  "Can you come get me, I'm stuck."  He's three doors down and stuck in our street.  I get in my car and have him hook up the tow pulls to me and up the street we go.  Who knew I knew how to pull a car up the road, huh?  So, I'm turning into the driveway and he gets stuck again - then I get stuck.  Meanwhile, my neighbor who lives on the dead end is coming up the road.  He can't get past, Mark's in the middle of the road!  Oh geez.  So, we got out the snowblower and everyone is dug out.  I know we live on a dead end, but please plow!! 

Oh and Neeley, sorry I chickend out and didn't come over tonight.  Those dang weather people just kill me...I don't think one flake has fallen since I got home from work.  I totally should have just come over according to plan!

Let the demo begin

Jeff came over last night and moved our stove and fridge into the family room - their new home for the next 6 months.  We've un-installed the dishwasher and are waiting for a few guys to show up before we can start the actual demo.  Oh boy
